He Wanted a Backyard Putting Green. What He Got Looked Like Mini Golf Land.
We got a call from a guy who was pretty frustrated.
“I asked for a putting green. What they gave me looks like something from a kid’s birthday party.”
He wasn’t wrong.
We showed up, and the turf was bright lime green, bumpy, shiny, and honestly... embarrassing. It didn’t roll true. It didn’t look natural. And it sure as hell didn’t feel like a real green.
The Problem?
He hired a local crew that “does turf.”
The kind of guys who walk into the nearest turf distributor and say,
“Gimme whatever’s cheap for a putting green.”
And what they handed him was that high-friction, mini-golf-grade turf — you know, the stuff they use next to arcade buildings and plastic dinosaurs.
What Most People Don’t Know
There are pro-level putting green systems that look, act, and feel like the real thing.
We’re talking:
True ball roll
Custom contours and breaks
Turf that matches the color and grain of real golf course greens
Shock pads or fringe zones that make it feel like an actual short game area
The difference? It’s night and day.
But most people don’t know better — and the cheap contractors don’t explain the difference. They just slap down a putting green and call it a day.
